# Account & settings

Your account settings follow you into every organisation and workspace. Open the account menu
and choose "User settings". There are four sections.

| You want to… | Go to |
|---|---|
| Change your name or picture | "Account & security" |
| Change your password | "Account & security", "Change password" |
| Add a second step at sign-in | "Account & security", "Two-factor authentication" |
| See every workspace you are in, and your role there | "My access" |
| Switch theme, font size or language | "Appearance" |
| See what the assistant remembers about you | "Assistant" |

## Name, picture and email

Under "Account" you set your "Display name" and a picture with "Upload avatar" (PNG, JPEG or
WebP, at most 5 MB, cropped to a circle). Your "Email" is shown but cannot be changed here.

## Password

"Change password" asks for your "Current password", then the new one twice. A password needs at
least 8 characters, with an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter, a number and a symbol.

Forgot it? Type a wrong password on the login page and "Forgot your password?" appears. "Send
reset link" emails you a link. Resetting your password signs you out everywhere.

You can also sign in without a password. On the login page choose "Email me a sign-in code
instead". You get a six-digit code that works for 10 minutes.

## Two-factor authentication

Two-factor authentication adds a six-digit code from an authenticator app to your sign-in.

1. In "Account & security", switch on "Two-factor authentication".
2. Enter your "Account password" and press "Generate secret".
3. Scan the QR code with your authenticator app, or copy the secret into it.
4. Enter the code from the app and press "Enable 2FA".

From then on, sign-in asks for an "Authenticator code" after your password. To switch it off
again you need a valid code.

> [!TIP]
> dembrane does not give you backup codes. Use an authenticator app that you can restore on a
> new phone.

## One browser at a time

Your account can be signed in to the dashboard on one browser at a time. When you sign in on a
second one you see "This account is logged in somewhere else", with the time it was signed in
there. "Log in anyway" continues here and logs the other device out. "Back to log in" leaves
the other one alone.

A session lasts 7 days and is extended while you use it.

## Appearance

- "Theme": "System", "Light" or "Dark". "System" follows your device.
- "Font size" changes the base text size of the interface.
- "Language" sets the interface language: English, Nederlands, Deutsch, Français, Español,
  Italiano, Ukrainian or Czech.

Theme and language are also in the account menu. They change how the dashboard looks for you.
They do not change your projects or what participants see.

## My access

"My access" lists every organisation and workspace you are a member of, with your role and the
plan. It is the quickest answer to "why can't I see that project?". "Open organisation" takes
you there.

Waiting for access? When someone invites you, the account menu shows "You have a pending
invite". Under "Pending invites" you can "Accept and join" or "Decline". An invite only shows
for the email address it was sent to.

To start a second organisation, choose "Create organisation" in the account menu.

## Assistant

"Assistant" shows the "Memory" card: the notes [the assistant](./chat-and-ask.md) keeps about
how you like to work. Only you see them. You cannot write or edit a note. "Remove" makes the
assistant forget it in every future chat.

## Notifications

Notifications arrive in the "Inbox" in the sidebar. "For you" holds your own notifications and
"Updates" holds announcements from dembrane. "All read" marks the open tab as read. There is
no setting to turn notifications or emails on or off. See
[notifications](../../features/notifications.md).

## Deleting your account, or getting your data

The dashboard has no button to delete your account or to download your data. Both are a
request to dembrane. See [getting help](./getting-help.md) for how to reach the team.
