Recording your conversation

On this page

Press “Record”, talk, press “Stop”, then “Finish”. The rest of this page is for when you want more control or something goes wrong.

Before you press “Record”

Record, stop, finish

Your audio is sent while you talk, in pieces of 30 seconds. Wait for the thank-you page before you close the tab. Audio that was not sent yet is lost when the tab closes.

Test your microphone

There is no microphone check before you start. Tap the gear icon, “Settings”. You see “Selected microphone:”, a list to pick another one, and “Live audio level:”. You can switch microphone while you record: the audio so far is saved.

If the portal hears nothing for 8 seconds, this window opens by itself.

Type instead

Tap the text icon (“Switch to text”). Write in the box “Type your response here” and press “Submit”. The microphone icon (“Switch to audio”) takes you back. You can do both in one conversation.

Look back at what you said

“View your responses” opens “Your responses”: what you recorded so far, as text. A piece that is still being worked on shows “Transcription in progress.” To remove a piece, open its menu and choose “Delete”.

When the portal shows a warning

You see What to do
A yellow notice: “Your microphone may not work inside LinkedIn.” (or Instagram, or Facebook) Press “Copy link” and open the link in Safari or Chrome.
A message that microphone access was denied Allow the microphone for this page in your browser settings. “Open troubleshooting guide” shows how. Then press “Check microphone access”.
“Connection issue”: “Something is blocking your connection. Your audio will not be saved unless this is resolved.” Turn off your VPN or switch to another network, such as a mobile hotspot. Then press “Reconnect”. “Record” stays off until this works.
“You seem to be offline, please check your internet connection” Get back online and stay on the page.
“Something went wrong with the conversation. Please try refreshing the page or contact support if the issue persists” Refresh the page.
“Recording interrupted” This happens when a phone locks or takes a call. Press “Reconnect”. What was already sent is kept. The portal warns that the last 60 seconds or so are lost, so say them again if they mattered.
“An error occurred while loading the portal. Please contact the support team.” The link is wrong, or the project no longer takes recordings. Ask your host for a new link.

Still stuck? Ask your host. They set up the session and can see whether your recording arrived.
